Sou um entusiasta dos computadores desde que eles surgiram. Fui um dos primeiros jornalistas e escritores brasileiros a adotar o computador para meu trabalho.

Em 1997 comecei um novo ciclo, colaborando com revistas da editora Abril, começando pela VIP (que em seguida me contratou). O diretor editorial da Abril na época, Paulo Nogueira me convidou para escrever para a mais importante revista de tecnologia da época, a Info. Achei que, por ser um leigo, a coluna duraria pouco. Escrevi por 20 anos, e uma seleção das colunas está no livro Alma Digital.

Nesse mesmo ano eu comprei um pequeno dicionário de informática em inglês. Sugeri ao Paulo que a gente fizesse algo parecido em português, adaptando os termos e a linguagem para a realidade brasileira. Ele não só topou como me arrumou um coordenador de luxo, o jornalista José Roberto Guzzo - que hoje é meu colega na revista Oeste.

Esse dicionário, do jeito que eu o concebi, ficou pronto, mas não foi publicado. Serviu de base depois para um livro lançado pela Abril por outros autores. Como eu tinha os originais desse Dicionário de Informática 1997, preparei uma versão digital dele, que publiquei em julho de 2019.

A ideia foi preservar esse momento, seus termos, suas referências técnicas, a gíria nerd da época, a incrível precariedade desses primeiros tempos perto do que temos hoje (e teremos amanhã).

Memories of technology

I have been a computer enthusiast since they first appeared. I was one of the first Brazilian journalists and writers to adopt computers for my work.

In 1997, I began a new cycle, collaborating with magazines published by Abril, starting with VIP (which later hired me). The editorial director of Abril at the time, Paulo Nogueira, invited me to write for the most important technology magazine of the time, Info. I thought that, since I was a layman, the column would not last long. I wrote for 20 years, and a selection of the columns is in the book Alma Digital. ("Digital Soul", in Portuguese)

That same year, I bought a small computer dictionary in English. I suggested to Paulo that we do something similar in Portuguese, adapting the terms and language to the Brazilian reality. He not only agreed, but also found me a luxury coordinator, the journalist José Roberto Guzzo - who is now my colleague at Oeste magazine.

This dictionary, as I conceived it, was finished, but it was not published. It later served as the basis for a book published by Abril by other authors. Since I had the originals of this 1997 Computer Dictionary, I prepared a digital version of it, which I published in July 2019.

The idea was to preserve this moment, its terms, its technical references, the nerd slang of the time, the incredible precariousness of those early days compared to what we have today (and will have tomorrow).
